The government recently launched a second Animal Welfare Bill within kept animals. The bill sets out to enhance police powers and improve the welfare of kept animals within the UK. The bill has five key focus areas. These areas include, puppy smuggling, keeping primates as pets, livestock worrying and zoos. Within this, the UK also sets out to be the first country in Europe to ban the live exports of livestock. The bill is being delivered as part of the Government’s flagship Action Plan for Animal Welfare and aims to improve welfare standards of livestock, pets and wild animals through multiple avenues.
