The Farming Innovation Programme was announced on 22nd August 2022, running in partnership with UK Research and Innovation. Multiple projects are utilising this 270 million funding programme with 16.5 million going towards innovation in horticulture and agriculture, including optimisation of pig welfare, crop yields and agri robots to name a few.
The aim of this programme is to continue the growth and support of sustainable practises and increase production efficiencies, as well as enhancing animal health and welfare. Defra is expecting to fund 600 million worth of grants to projects across the farming industry over the next 3 years to increase and improve overall sustainability, productivity, and promote novel innovation.
