The UK Government have announced an update on the new Sustainable Farming Incentive Scheme including the recommendation of eight environmental standards with three tiers; introductory, intermediate and advanced, and varying levels of payment options. The Sustainable Farming Incentive Scheme will begin trials on farms in the summer of 2021 and will be first launched to all farmers in receipt of BPS payments from mid-2022 onwards. An emphasis is given to the dynamic nature of the trials and scheme, which will work directly in collaboration with farmers in its design. Updates on the other two elements of the Environmental Land Management Scheme will be given later in the year.
