A collaborative project between multiple experts within the agriculture field has seen great progression to automate current lettuce harvesting techniques. The project has utilised current leek harvesting machinery and adapted it to lift a lettuce from the ground and using artificial inteligence and sensor technology, automatically remove the outer layer leaves, leaving the stem exposed to easily and precisely separate the head of the lettuce from the stem. Removing this time consuming and labour intensive step of lettuce harvesting will ultimately improve production efficiencies across Europe and the United States of America.
