The consumer demand for strawberries all year round is constantly growing. However, during the winter months strawberry yields are often reduced because of the detrimental effects cold conditions have on the plants. One avenue to overcome this issue currently being explored is Vertical Farming, therefore controlling environmental conditions such as temperature, light and availability of nutrients. Vertical farming consequently means that strawberry crops could be grown indoors all year round. Digital Farming are collaborating with Agri SGJ with the help of the SMART Cymru Scheme to use vertical farming as a sustainable method for growing strawberries all year round.
