A new three year on farm trial is now underway in a bid to boost yellowhammers across UK farms, covering 150 acres of land. The aim is to increase yellowhammers on farm population by up to 30%. The field trial will look at multiple ways to increase the population including to introduce winter bird food mixes, improve and create nesting locations and trial later hedge trimming in the year to avoid disturbing nests to soon. The increase of the yellowhammer population aims to increase overall biodiversity and consequently improve soil health.
